i just think you're the bee's knees!

Today Buck becomes a man-dog. i dropped him off at the vet this morning to get his balls chopped off and i became overwhelmed with this choked-up, panicky feeling i think must be along the same lines of how mother's describe dropping their kids off at Kindergarten for the first time.
i wouldn't know.

Our neighbor Minh says, "it might help if you didn't call it 'getting his balls chopped off,' " True, yes, but like i told her, i think it sounds more dramatic that way, and i'm all about effect.

i've been so excited about this appointment for the past three weeks, daydreaming about everything i was going to do with my one day and night of freedom. Not waking up at ungodly hours to go stand outside in my pajamas in the freezing cold (and lately, snow) to scream "go poddy! Go poddy! Goooood dooooog! You'reSUCHagoodboy! SUCHagoodboyyy!" in my "dog friendly" voice you've all been lucky enough to hear now. Not pacing my yard like a hunched-over crazy lady with plastic bags tied to my hands picking up poop, and not having to change my pants several times a day due to muddy paw prints. And that's just the short list.

And then yesterday we had this major breakthrough where he all of the sudden turned into the World's Perfect Companion, and he was all chill and relaxed and not the usual crazy puppy tornado knocking everything over and breaking or eating all of my most favorite things. He got a bath and a new, more macho bandanna. And then somewhere, somehow, over space and time, a strike of lightening hit at the same moment a single dove feather fell to the ground and Peter and Buck actually started bonding, i swear, i saw it with my own eyes. Buck chose to give the frisbee to Peter over me, and Peter.... i saw him pat his head in return. i wouldn't lie about something like that.

And now he's gone and i'm sad. And it's so cold and lonely without a giant mass of fur and drool on my lap.

This is the last video of Buck in his prime puppy hood, balls intact. it was taken last night while my mom was over:
